Woodbine Revitalizes Iconic Environmentalist Brand

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (May 8, 2009) – It’s not myth. Nor legend. It’s real. And it’s on the move. It’s Sasquatch, the brand.

Sasquatch is the original environmentalist, and he has become a commercially viable brand thanks in part to the brand revitalization experts at Woodbine*.

The first Sasquatch sightings have been significant, with national distribution of the first licensed products already in place at Target, Wal-Mart and K-Mart, and at a number of drug, office and grocery stores.

Woodbine was asked by Don Baddour, who owns the trademark to the Sasquatch name, to make Sasquatch the icon for the eco-friendly product movement around the world. What started as an idea became a vision: to make Sasquatch synonymous with saving the environment by creating simple, hip and attainable environmentally friendly options for any category.

Woodbine designed fun, almost cartoon-like collateral and a logo with the tagline “Leave Nothing But Tracks.” The brand elements were taken to Charlotte, NC-based Carolina Pad & Paper, which created a full line of eco-friendly paper products. The first round included notebooks, binders, pencils and the like for 8-13 year old boys and girls. Carolina Pad also created a website, Find-Sasquatch.com, to complement the in-store offerings.

“We’re so excited to have given Sasquatch new life,” said Peter Mitchell, Woodbine President and CEO. “The name is well known but it lacked relevance for these times. We were able to give it something unique; something extraordinary that allowed a new generation of consumers to enjoy the myth. It may be our best brand revitalization story yet.”

Today’s tweens are vested in protecting the environment, and they connect with companies that share their views, making this the right brand for the right time. The question for Baddour and Woodbine is simple: where will the next sighting be? A line of eco-friendly products in a completely different category is lurking (right behind that big tree over there).
